Discover Gabala
The administrative center of the Gabala region is at the foot of the south-western hills of the great Caucasian Chain.
In the vicinity of the Tufandagh (4191 meters) and Bazaryurd (4126 meters) mountain peaks.
There are a lot of temples, mosques, towers, mausoleums, holy, sights, – pir and odzhag, medieval defensive turrets and ancient burial sights – necropoleis to discover Gabala.
But the major historical sight of all is ancient Gabala, a giant city of Kabalaka, the city in the historical sources dating I century.
Plinius, Strabonus, Prolemy and many other historians narrate to us about this city in their chronicles.
It existed for more than 1800 years, of which for 600 years it was a capital of the ancient state – Caucasian Albania.
The ruins of the ancient city cover 20 km away from the region’s center. At the hilly locate between the Qarachay and Shorloochay rivers, where we can still find the remains of the majestic fortress structures of the ancient, antique city.
